Dominican Amber Fossil
Curculionidae Scolytinae (Bark Beetle)
Bark beetles are small insects with a body cylindrical, brownish or black; they have characteristic short geniculate antennae, ending in a large club. Scolytinae live in galleries under bark of dying trees and feed on phloem tissue; some species may infest living trees and kill them. Each species of bark beetles has a characteristic pattern of galleries and a rigid preference for a particular tree species.
